-
Benjamin Jack
LEADER
Benjamin Jack is the extroverted, outspoken mouthpiece of the friend group—never afraid to say what everyone else is thinking. Operating on logic and sound decisions, he often serves as the group’s voice of reason, guiding their actions with calculated charm and unwavering confidence. Charismatic and quick-witted, Benjamin’s presence can light up a room, but his deeper side is reserved for the ones he holds closest—especially LaToya and Hunter, whom he cares for deeply.
Despite his strong front and leadership qualities, Benjamin’s heart is more fragile than he lets on. One sharp emotional blow is all it takes to shake the foundation he stands on… making him one of the most layered and human characters in Black Sheep.
-
Hunter McGillis
EMOTIONAL CORE
Hunter McGillis is the emotional core of the friend group—the kind of person who wears his heart on his sleeve without apology. Guided by feeling rather than logic, Hunter cares deeply for the people he loves and isn’t afraid to show it. His open, vulnerable nature draws others to him, especially women who find comfort in his gentle and welcoming demeanor.
But beneath his soft exterior lies a surprising edge. Though often labeled naïve, Hunter is far from foolish. He understands that sometimes, playing the fool is the smartest move of all. When pushed too far, he can flip the emotional switch in an instant—transforming from tender to terrifying. A heart-led thinker with sharp instincts, Hunter may just be the quiet strategist no one sees coming.
LETS KEEP THE CONVERSATION GOING.
What do you think the meaning is behind Hunter’s solid gold dog collar?

Antonymous
RESTLESS GHOST
Antonymous (formerly Anthony Barber) is a restless ghost tethered to the shadows of 1950s–60s Detroit. In life, he was a passionate young man in his twenties, deeply in love and engaged to his fiancée—until tragedy tore their fairytale apart. Her sudden, violent loss landed him institutionalized leading to self-destruction, and now, as Antonymous, he wanders the earth fueled by grief and vengeance. Though no longer alive, his emotions remain painfully human.
He keeps a golden, heart-shaped locket of her—chained from his belt loop into his pocket, checking it often to ensure it’s untouched, unbroken. It’s the last piece of her he has left.
Now, consumed by fury but longing for peace, the question remains:
Will Antonymous ever reunite with her in the afterlife, or will his rage keep him chained to this world forever?
Reoccurring Characters
-
Angelina Baker
BEAUTY & BRAINS
Angelina “Lina” Baker is a headstrong, striking young woman with a sharp tongue and a sharper mind. She met Anthony while working in the stockroom of the Edison Soda Factory, where his relentless flirting tested her patience—and her boundaries. She rejected him three times before even considering a relationship, making it clear she’s not easily impressed.
Stubborn yet sincere, Lina is unafraid to stand her ground and speak her truth. In a world of muted tones, her style is a burst of color—her fashion, makeup, and hair always flawless, always turning heads. But she’s more than a pretty face: intelligent and enterprising, she opened a hair salon right next to her father’s lively juke joint, carving out a space of her own.
Lina is proof that beauty and brains can walk hand in hand—and she makes sure the world knows it.
-
LaToya Burns
MYSTERIOUS GIRL
LaToya Burns is the quiet, introspective member of the friend group—an intentional contrast to the loud energy of Hunter and Benjamin. Reserved and independent, she prefers solitude or the soft company of her roommate, D’rra Barr, over crowded rooms or emotional drama.
Stubborn like Angelina, LaToya isn’t one to follow the group’s lead. She confidently enters the Edison Soda Factory alone to finish an assignment early, just so she can make a concert with D’rra. She finds comfort in her own company, occasionally joining social events only when they amuse her.
Though undeniably beautiful and often admired, past troubles with romance have left her cautious—perhaps too much so. This vulnerability leads her to remain in the alternate version of Detroit with Antonymous, despite knowing she shouldn’t. But his ghostly charm—and hypnotic influence—makes it hard to leave.
-
Anthony Barber
STERN & GOOFY
Anthony Barber, A goofy, quick-witted jokester with a serious side, Anthony uses humor to cope with the emotional weight of his past—especially the guilt of not being able to save his sister Nancy from institutionalization. Working in a soda factory in your early 20s can be quite a life-changing experience. He dreams of opening his own barbershop despite a strained relationship with his father. His deep love for Angelina challenges societal norms and draws him into emotional and supernatural trials. Loyal, gentle, and quietly determined, Anthony is both a peace-seeker and a fighter when it counts. His interests are music, milkshakes, dancing, and nature.
Minor Characters
-
Professor Dimitrios Romanos
Professor Dimetrios Romanos is a short, sharp-witted Greek man with olive skin, slicked-back gray hair, and thin-framed glasses. Often seen in a simple plaid dress shirt, navy blue slacks, and his trusty New Balance gym shoes, he may not look the part of a ghost expert—but his knowledge runs deep.
A passionate industrial design professor with a sarcastic streak and dry humor, Professor Romanos serves as both a mentor and a father figure to the group. He often offers cryptic yet meaningful wisdom, especially when warning others not to enter the abandoned Edison Soda Factory—a site he knows is far from ordinary. With decades of experience and a skeptical eye, he blends intellect with intuition, cautioning that some places are better left undisturbed.
-
Charles Bagley
Charles Bagley is the loud, fast-talking, over-the-top head anchor at Coyote Channel 3 News in Detroit. With his flashy smile, exaggerated gestures, and relentless energy, he’ll do just about anything to chase a hot story—unless it’s inconvenient. A former lawyer turned media figure, Bagley knows how to manipulate both the courtroom and the camera, often choosing ratings over righteousness.
Though Benjamin and Hunter bribe him to feature the story of LaToya’s disappearance, Bagley ultimately sells them out—skipping the segment entirely during the live broadcast. His ambition masks a shady moral compass, revealing a man who’s more loyal to power and profit than the truth.
-
Dhara Barr
Dhara Barr is LaToya’s loyal roommate and one of her closest friends since freshman year. South Asian with family roots in India, she is brown-skinned with shiny shoulder-length black hair, and she’s known for her effortlessly stylish floral tops, tube-patterned shirts, and wide-legged pants or skirts. An active participant in college sports and clubs, she and LaToya have built a deep, sister-like bond over the years.
When LaToya vanishes without a trace, Dhara becomes the emotional anchor of the group—the backbone holding everyone together. As the last person to see LaToya leave in the middle of the night, she takes it upon herself to trace every detail, chasing down leads and keeping communication strong between everyone involved. Determined and sharp, Dhara is always watching for signs of LaToya’s whereabouts—or clues that might point to who took her. Her strength, clarity, and quiet sense of duty keep hope alive when things seem most uncertain.
-
The Old Man
Joseph White “The Old Man”
Known in present-day Detroit simply as “the Old Man,” Joseph White is the quiet, watchful figure who knows more than he lets on. Once a worker at the Edison Soda Factory’s 2nd plant floor, he spent his early years alongside Angelina and Anthony, witnessing their bond blossom firsthand. Now, decades later, he’s the one who warns wandering souls about their tragic love story—because he lived it.
Years ago, Joseph was threatened by looters desperate for answers, forcing him to give up the couple’s location—something he’s never forgiven himself for. He carries the weight of their fate heavily, especially Angelina’s. Every year, without fail, he leaves flowers on her grave, mourning not only the love story lost, but the love he never had the courage to pursue himself.
-
Franklin "Frank" Baker
Born in 1912, Angelina’s father and husband to Alice Scott, Frank Baker is a man with a past he rarely speaks of—one scarred by trauma, hardship, and loss. To cope, he pours his energy into co-running a vibrant juke joint with Alice, where he serves as bartender and entertainment manager while she cooks and decorates. With a flair reminiscent of Cab Calloway, Frank commands attention behind the bar, blending showmanship with stern presence.
The juke joint is more than a business—it’s a sanctuary for the local community after long, scorching workdays. Despite the fun and laughter that fills its walls, Frank remains watchful, especially over his daughter. He disapproves of Angelina sneaking around with Anthony and running her own hair salon next door, believing it’s reckless and puts her in harm’s way. Above all, protecting his wife and daughter is his deepest priority, even if it means clashing with their independence.
-
Raymond Valentino
Raymond Valentino, a man raised in postwar Detroit, has been Anthony’s friend since middle school. Bonded by their shared love for music, milkshakes, and sports, the two became nearly inseparable through their teen years. He becomes a great friend and serves as the core communicator between Anthony and Angelina at times where they cannot be seen in public. Though warm and witty, Raymond harbored a deeply personal struggle—realizing at seventeen that he was bisexual, he remained closeted due to the oppressive social norms of the 1950s.
After Angelina’s tragic death and Anthony’s institutionalization, Raymond marries Betty Haynes and steps in to raise Anthony and Angelina’s son as his own. As the years pass and he ages, Raymond begins to encounter the eerie presence of Antonymous more frequently—an unsettling echo from his past. In the present day, when Benjamin and Hunter begin their search for LaToya, their path inevitably leads to Raymond. Strangely, each meeting with him is mirrored by an appearance from Antonymous, hinting at a deeper connection. Serving as an enigmatic go-between, Raymond becomes the reluctant voice of communication between Antonymous and the living.
Still unwavering in his loyalty to Anthony, Raymond ultimately grants Antonymous one of his wishes: a quiet, unseen visit to the son he never got to know. Throughout this troubling time, Raymond serves as comic relief with depth. He lightens heavy scenes with dry wit or sarcasm, but slowly reveals a more complex emotional core (grief, guilt, fear). This duality makes him relatable and multidimensional.
